To provide context, here are interpolated counts from 1972 to 2001. Natural and clearcut habitats are shown separately, as is the isolated Mt. Washington colony.

The interpolation method is regression of maximum annual counts, and then summary of results from occupied sites.

We're facing a near extinction. Only 10 or so animals remain on Mt. Washington, with another 20 in the Nanaimo Lakes area.
