In terms of
marmots, by 1966 there were still no hard population
data. Indeed, there was little interest in marmots, and
Heard's (1977) pioneeering field study was still a decade
away.
In terms of
forestry, logging activities continued to expand, and for
the first time clearcutting began to occur above 700
metres elevation.
