1974
The first reserve established for marmots was a unofficial "company reserve" that was negotiated by BC Fish and Wildlife, Crown Zellerbach and MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.

The area is 150 hectares, and included the large and well-known colonies at Haley Lake and Bell Creek. This area appeared as "Marmot Reserve" on forest company maps of the period.

A ski-hill development began in Block 1392 in 1968 (operated by the Sno-bird Lift Society).
